What I've Been Up To

I know I haven't really posted on this blog in a while but here's a little update…

I've been so busy with all my projects coming up
1) The SpeediCook commercial I have to shoot for my advertising unit.
2)The Michael Frien studio shoot (which we had to do interviews with real professionals in the business and I got the role I applied for - DIRECTORgo me!)
3) My End of Year Film (my last project) that will be show in the cinema
4)My End of Year Film blog that is worth 80% of our final mark (I've been focusing mainly on that blog lately)

I asked if it was possible if we could just use our first blogs but that was a no go and since the othe blog is worth 80% I've been putting all my efforts into that.

I've also finished my comedy/farce short a while back 'Sick as a Dog' that I will post up.

Sick as a Dog

An extract of a short non-dialogue farce script I wrote:
SCENE 4 - INTERIOR - WAITING ROOM

Arthur walks over to a seat and sits down, swinging his legs

at the seat he is sitting in. He sees a woman sitting next

to him with a cat cage beside her.

(CONTINUED)

Arthur starts to make cute faces at the cat cage and starts

wiggling his finger at it until he gets closer and closer

until the cat tries to attack him.

A huge roar is heard from the cage making Arthur jump back

in fear. Arthur barks at the cat cage in retaliation. The

woman sitting beside him looks at him, seeing this he stops

and looks awkwardly away.

Arthur pulls out a PSP and looking very child like and

innocent he starts playing it.

Arthur is handed a medical form to complete, he looks

thankful to the person giving it to him.

Arthur looks down to form and then starts to fill it out. He

looks up as if thinking about something and starts to fill

out form again.

He looks confused over some of the questions he was

answering but continues on.(some of the questions animal

related i,e. breed)

The hand that handed him the medical form takes it from him,

he hands it over with a smile.

Arthur looks around room endearingly. A weird and slightly

psychotic looking doctor in a white lab coat walks out from

his office, a bit untidy looking, and as he does he reaches

into the inside of his lab coat, pulls out a flask and takes

a swig, quickly putting it back inside.

The doctor calls out Arthur’s name.

Arthur hearing this gets up and walks over, accidentally

lifting the woman’s cat cage instead of his own bag, shaking

the doctors hand as he walks in his office. The doctor takes

one more swig from his flask before he follows.

SCENE 5 - INTERIOR - DOCTORS OFFICE

Guy sits down on the table, realizing he has the cat box he

looks a bit confused wondering how he got it; he sets it

down. The doctor walks over to him.

The doctor makes a series of gestures to ask what’s wrong

Arthur makes a sad face while motioning to his throat and

stomach.

The doctor grabs Arthur face while moving it up and down,

side to side examining him.

Comedy Short

So last week me and my production crew finished the shoot for a comedy/farce project we had to do for class.

It was called 'Sick as a Dog' and is about a naive, dumb-wited guy who gets sick and attempts to travel to a doctor surgery but instead ends up at a vets.

We are currently in the post production stages of the film process (editing).

It was a two day shoot and we had two locations to shoot in. One problem we had was the scenes we thought would be difficult to shoot turned out to be the easiest; and vice-versa. Through a little bit of of extra planning though we managed to get around the scenes.

I will upload an extract of the script on the next post.

Dislocation Film Blog

If you read my last post you would have seen that I talked about having to create a new blog for my end of year film, which has the theme of Dislocation.

To see how that's going here is the link: Dislocation Film. I will continue to post on this blog however.

Not Posted in a While

Sorry I haven't posted in a while on this blog, I've been busy with schoolwork assignments and shooting and editing. I have also been working on my documentary blog that I had to work on for my documentary and that took priority for a while as I was being marked on it.

If you want to check that blog out it's DocuPearse it basically talked about everything I went through with the documentary, from the initial idea - script - shot list - shooting schedule and editing.

And if you want to see the documentary here it is...
Also I plan to use this blog as I finish my degree in Southampton; which I will be attending next year, so I will be moving away which is very exciting.

Also one final thing, for my end of year film I was asked to make a new blog; however I don't know whether to start a new one entirely or to just use this one. If I decide to start a new one entirely then I will not use this one until after the project but I do promise to keep you all up to date.

Second Script

Here's another one of my Scripts...

Moving Out

A relationship drama about a mother and son on the brink

Charlie is sitting at the table on his own, his mum in the next room, with the look of something playing on his mind.

INT. HOUSE – KITCHEN/KITCHEN TABLE - DAY

Mum walks in

MUM

What’s wrong?

CHARLIE

Why is he always here, has he not got his own home to go to.

Charlie says through gritted teeth.

MUM

Oh not this again!

Charlie’s mum says raising her voice

CHARLIE

Nobody likes him and he’s pushing everyone else away.

MUM

It’s nobody else’s business, I let them do what they want so I can do what I want

CHARLIE

Nobody comes around anymore because he’s here and I’m uncomfortable in my own house

MUM

I’m capable of making my own decisions.

Charlie talks over his mum not caring what she is saying; still very angry.

My Own Stuff

I just thought it would be nice to share my own screenplays so you can see my writing style, I still have a lot to learn. These are some of my earlier scripts.

A young boy has the opportunity to live the same day twice.

Fix You

SCENE 1: INTERIOR BEDROOM

CU on alarm clock, it’s 07:57, it changes to 08:00. The shrill alarm goes off.

From right of frame a hand hits the surface around the alarm clock, it fumbles around looking for the ‘OFF’ switch; it finds its target and hits the alarm off.

Cut to a MS of Pearse. He sits up on the bed, rubs his eyes and runs his fingers through his hair. Cut to a LS, Pearse gets up out of bed and walks out of frame.

SCENE 2: INTERIOR BATHROOM

High angle MS, Pearse grabs either side of the sink and wearily leans towards the mirror. He fills the sink with water.

Cut to a CU of the tap as water flows. Cut back to a high angle MS as the boy splashes water over his face.

A fast paced edited sequence leads to a CU from an angle behind the boy as he brushes his teeth.

SCENE 3: INTERIOR BEDROOM

Cut to a low angle CU. Pearse is back in his bedroom where he puts on a jumper.

SCENE 4: INTERIOR STAIRWELL

Cut to a bird’s eye view of the stairs. The boy’s mother walks into the frame, looks at camera and shouts up.

MUM:

“YOU’RE GOING TO BE LATE!”

Cut to MS as Pearse comes out into the landing, he looks past camera then glances at his watch. Cut to a CU of his watch. Cut to a MS, he runs back into his room to collect his bag. He passes a calendar on the wall. The date is the 23 March 2012.

He grabs his bag and he runs down the stairs.

The camera ‘follows’ on as Pearse runs out through the front door into the world.
