Screenplay success

In scriptwriting class we learnt the foundations of making a good script/screenplay, something of which I always wondered how the professionals go about, and we were taught to do it in a few simple steps that anyone could use; and with luck and much practise, will help me create a good screenplay.

In class we learnt to come up with an idea starting at the start (obviously) coming up with a series of ideas branching them out to see which one helps the story flow.

Then if you like you can start the ending so you have a beginning and an end you know you must get to and then work out the details of the middle last.

When working on your script you need to keep these in mind:

1. Cause & Effect - in which an action or event will produce a certain response to the action in the form of another event.
2. Conflict & Resolution - what happens in the script/screenplay, why it happens and how does it get resolved. This is so something happens in the story and the main character/characters progress and grow and end up differently than how they started.
3. Emotional wave - does it have ups in downs for the character to keep the audience interested in the film?
4. Authenticity - Is it authentic, does it happen in real life? You need some sort of experience in the subject matter to write about it. "Write what you know"
5. Imagination - It needs to have the right mix of authenticity and imagination to keep viewers interested, if it has too much authenticity it's boring and basically a documentary. If it has too much imagination then it's unrealistic.

So with these steps you should be able to make a great screenplay.

It's been a while

It's been a while since I last updated and I did promise to update more fun things, all in due time but first things first.

The week at e3 finished... a week ago and thank goodness for that! After all that pretentious bull crap about it being beneficial was all a bunch of lies, like I expected but to be fair a few things did come from it.

1. I made new friends and that's always a good thing and I found out one of them went to the same primary school as me, in the same year.
2. I got a nice photo of me and an aquarium of nice fish.
3. I'm not sure there is a third.

I do promise to post more often and things of a fun and thoughtful nature... stay tuned ;)

So recently we found out we have to go to this organised event, e3! Which is in another campus out of the way.

Why do we need to do this? Personally I think we don't, I've learnt how to do presentation in secondary school and I'm sure the skills are transferable. And again I'm sure when i do do this I will be glad I've done it but at this time NO!!!

What it's meant to be for is when we do go out to the professional world this is supposed to give us experience etc.

I am sure however, that I would have learnt all that in the course but now they want me to do it as a different part of the course and they never told us about it before we started the course.

Anyway I'll try and post a more positive, creative and upbeat post next time.

First Post

Today in college I learned how I perfer to learn and what I'm better at. I learnt that I prefer to work musically/by sound mostly. I also learned that I like working naturally and by inspiration.

I have also learned how I least like to work, mathmatically being the main.

So I will build this blog  with my thoughts, ideas and plans and use it as a kind of electronic CV, so the first few posts will look maybe a bit simple or plain untill I get into the swing of things and with a bit of practice and hard/creative work this blog will look a better and a bit more professional.
